ADINET Librarian's Day 2009 is Here

The much awaited ADINET Librarian's Day 2009 is here, very near. It will be celebrated on 29th August 2009 (Saturday) at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA). This year the theme of seminar is "Information Literacy and Changing Landscape of Libraries", an appropriate theme at an appropriate time. Just read through the sub-themes:

Enthusiasm continues in ADINET Librarians In-service Training Program

ADINET & INFLIBNET conducted Module 2 of In-Service Training Programme for Library Professionals on July 4, 2009 with the theme "Communication and Reporting Skills". This was the second in the series after Module 1 with the theme "IT Skills Enhancement". The following topics were covered during this programme:

1. Effective Communication, by Mr. Manoj Kumar K, Scientist-D(CS), INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad
2. Reporting Skills, by Mrs. Pragnya J. Pathak, Librarian-SF, Institute of Plasma Research, Gandhinagar
3. Preparing a PowerPoint Presentation: Guidelines, Demonstration and Hands-on experience, by Ms. Shweta Shroff, Library & Information Services Officer, Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad

More that 30 enthusiastic working library professionals from across the Gujarat State participated in the program.

Mrs. R. Bharucha, Hon. Director of ADINET, welcomed all and briefed about the programme. She also introduced the Resource Persons and the Chief Guest Fr. Dr. Vincent Braganza, Principal, St.Xaviers College, Ahmedabad to the participants.

Fr. Dr. Vincent Braganza gave the guest lecture informing about the importance of Communication in life.

Mr. Manoj Kumar K spoke a few words on behalf of the Director, INFLIBNET Centre on this occasion emphasizing the significance of communication skills.

After a short tea-break, Mr. Manoj Kumar K, during his lecture-presentation, explained in detail the communication skills. He informed the participants in a very interesting manner about need for enhancing communication skills, types of communication skills and communication process. He also spoke about PIG PROFILE! Mrs. Pragnya J. Pathak, gave her presentation on Reporting Skills. She covered what, when, why, where and how of report writing. She also gave some tips for effective report writing with special emphasis to reports for library professionals.

Ms. Shweta Shroff, during a post-lunch session, demonstrated how to prepare a presentation using MS PowerPoint. She started from the scratch showing how to open a PowerPoint presentation and gradually moved towards the advanced features like template designing, using Slide Master, inserting tables, charts, pictures, clip art etc, using WordArt & AutoShape features, applying custom animation, providing hyperlinks and using action buttons etc. She also gave some useful tips for preparing and delivering an effective presentation.

Participants were also given an opportunity for hands on experience on preparing the presentations using MS PowerPoint.

At the end of the programme, feedback was sought by Mrs. Bharucha and the certificates were distributed.
