Hope you have read the story "Best Careers 2009: Librarian" by Marty Nemko in U.S. News and World Report (Read). Very encouraging, isn't it? Do we have a similar kind of report in India which would rate Librarianship as a Hot Career Option in India? Probably NO.
The Librarian across the Globe almost has a similar "Day in the Life", and they are energetic, helpful, tech-savvy, information sleuths, etc... BUT there seems to be some difference when it comes to opting Librarianship as a Career option, here it is more of "Librarian by Chance" than "Librarian by Choice".
We really need to ponder upon this very seriously and find the reasons, dig into the root cause and bring in the CHANGE where, the librarian is Well Respected, Regarded and Rewarded.
And... hope to see the next generation of people becoming "Librarian by Choice".
